Address: BlueJam Art Space, Mostyn Hall, Friargate, Penrith, Cumbria, CA11 7XR
Facilities: We have a kitchen with tea and coffee making facilities (please bring your own tea/coffee – or if you prefer there is a nominal charge to use ours) and a microwave/small fridge. There are toilets on the ground floor. We have good wifi throughout the space. At this time visitors will need to bring their own mug.
Equipment: We have ample chairs, tables and cushions, as well as a projector and flip chart which can be booked separately. We also have a huge array of musical instruments and recording equipment, including a gamelan, keyboards and drums – please enquire for more information. We are able to provide music stands.
Parking: There is very limited parking behind the space for one or two cars. We are a one minute walk from the nearest public car park.
Disabled access: We have a ramp to access the downstairs rooms (there is one step into the building). Unfortunately it is an old building and therefore there are currently no disabled toilet facilities.
Rebecca Barnes feedback on using the Space (More videos: BlueJam Arts)
We currently have good availability for all of our spaces, including in the evenings and at weekends. You can book a room either as a one-off or on a more ongoing basis (e.g. once a week for peripatetic teachers, an artist workspace on a monthly basis etc). We are Covid compliant and have a risk assessment in place.
This light and airy room houses our slendro bronze gamelan, Dwi Gambia Sari.
The largest room in the Space, we currently use it for gamelan workshops, orchestra practices, Improv Choir and Folk Group sessions. It has also been hired out for drama and opera rehearsals.
It is accessible through the front door with a wheelchair ramp into a wide entrance hall with tables and comfy chairs.
The dragon gallery gets the afternoon sun and is a lovely space for small meetings with a large table and chairs and gorgeous artwork on the walls.
We have also had small soirees here and it is an attractive space for small performances holding up to 40 in a seated audience in rows or 30 with tables.
This medium-sized room has a wonderful acoustic and we currently use it mainly for singing and string tuition. With beams and low windows it is an interesting space, with stairs down into it from the Dragon Gallery.
It has a good keyboard set up permanently.
This is our room which is used for artist workspaces. We have space for one or two more artists – please do enquire if you are interested. There are shelves for equipment and materials, a flipchart board and an adjoining lockable storage space.
This L-shaped room is kitted out with drumkit and band instruments, PA and recording equipment.
We use it for jazz rehearsals, band practices and teaching and smaller meetings where we will need access to printers etc.
It will hold a session with up to 12 people with instruments easily.
This room has been used for recording, guitar workshops, video displays and individual teaching.
It has a desk and could also be used for small meetings or work conferences.
