Organisation

Founded in 2002, BlueJam is an innovative community music and arts organisation who run a full programme of inclusive creative workshops, training, and professional and community performance activities and events. Directed by Jilly Jarman, we initiate and collaborate on music, film, performance and digital art-centred work, which we deliver through sessions in the community, in schools at at our Art Space in central Penrith. Our specialism is improvisation, which we pursue through jazz workshops and performances, and also use as a discipline to inform the way we deliver programmes and structure groups. We offer practical creative work experience, volunteering, and training opportunities for young people and adults, in both creative and technical disciplines

BlueJam Cumbria is a company limited by guarantee with charitable objects. We run a non-profit making community music and arts programme.

BlueJam promotes the creation, performance and sharing of new music and new ways of making music in an accessible, multi media environment.

Our stated aims in our Memorandum are: to promote and advance involvement, participation and access to the arts and in particular music and to formulate and establish schemes and projects to use the arts within the community to encourage social inclusion and community cohesion primarily in Cumbria.

We started music workshops in 2002 as a community group and incorporated as a social enterprise in 2007.
