During the first five sessions of this project Asha and Jilly worked together online singing and playing music and inviting people to join in on Zoom adding ideas, harmonies, creating art and poetry. As one person said, he was happy to be muted on the Zoom, but found himself singing the songs at full volume while out on his bike!
We then were able to take the choir to some groups who were starting to meet up in person, including the Lyvennet Lunch club, the Restore Penrith community volunteers as well as Penrith Community gardeners, who created poetry which is now on slates in our Poetry Garden and at the Railway Station, inspiring travellers. (We’ve had some lovely feedback).
For our final group of sessions, small groups met in BlueJam Space and worked together to create art, words and music, some of which is in this video. We all think we would like to carry on with the ideas and processes, especially as COVID will make singing in large groups a possible problem into 2022. Please contact us if you would like the scores of the music we created through this project.
Thank you to Postcode Neighbourhood Trust for making this project possible.
