Burnt Horse are a four-piece band from Keswick and Penrith in Cumbria. They play
folk music in their own style, mixing cellos, fiddle and guitars with lovely harmonies to
blend Americana and English roots with a sprinkle of 80s classics. The band name is
taken from Burnt Horse Ridge near Skiddaw.

Jilly Jarman is joined tonight by Geoff Bartholomew on trumpet and Ella Jarman-Pinto on vocals for a set of her original music and jazz and folk reworkings. As usual expect something new, something old and something borrowed – a mix of piano and voice solos, layered tracks mixing recorded and live sounds, and improvisation. Ella will also premiere one of her tracks from her upcoming album.

On Thursday 16th April (doors 7pm) we are delighted to welcome Laura Jane Wilkie & Ian Carr for an intimate gig at BlueJam Arts Space (Penrith, CA11 7XR). Laura is a fiddle player with a unique style which has roots in the Highland fiddle traditions but is influenced by a range of music from all genres. Ian is well known as a guitarist and composer – he has played with almost everyone on the UK folk scene at some point in his career including Kathryn Tickell. Eddie Reader and Kate Rusby. Laura and Ian will be performing as a duo, showcasing both new songs and old tunes.

Tickets cost £16 (full price) and £12 (concessions). There are a limited number of concession tickets available – all sales pays the artists and helps us host gigs and events at BlueJam so do consider whether you truly need a concession, though money should not be a barrier for attendance.

There’ll be a folk session after the gig so don’t forget your instrument!

Drinks including wine will be available by donation.
